The President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Amb Sukubo Saraigbe Sukubo in his usual manner humbly exploit this opportunity to express his appreciation to the Elder’s Council of Ijaw Youth Council, Eastern Zone on their support and solidarity to the people of Kula, Ngeje, Offoin-ama and Belema communities in Akuku-Toru local government Area of Rivers State, on the issue of OML25 flow station in Kula.
The President emphases that, the support and solidarity of the Elders Council is a booster to the struggle for the emancipation of the Ijaw Nation and communities from long years of neglect, marginalization, deprivation and slavery of the people of Ijaw Ethnic Nationality. He therefore, pledged total commitment and dedication to the peaceful, constructive and consistent struggle for total emancipation of exploitation of the Ijaw Nation from Multi-National Oil and Gas companies in the region.
He further explained to the Elders Forum on the reasons for the closure of OML25 and thanked the Elders Council for standing with them in their trial times.
In his response, the chairman of the Elders Council of IYC Eastern Zone, Elder Fiyasiri condemned in totality the unacceptable way Shell Petroleum Development Company have been dealing with it’s host communities in the Niger Delta Region since it inception in 1967 when oil was first discovered in Oloibiri, Bayelsa state of Niger Delta Region.
He postulated that the IYC Eastern zone Elder Council will stand with any ijaw community for peace justice, equality and fairness.
Accordingly, the President of NYCN and the Elders Council agreed to visit the affected communities and the OML25 for a fact finding mission and firsthand information.
Finally, the National President of NYCN Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo who has always stood for the truth, joyfully thanked the elder council for their words of encouragement and sincere desires to support a just course which is the core mandate for the formation of IYC.
